The most common thermoplastic for sliding and wear applications is Polyethylene, which comes in many different grades. Polyethylene is a relatively soft plastic with a waxy surface that gives it its low friction coefficient. PE exists in various densities and is labeled accordingly, LD - low density, MD - medium density, HD - high density. Polyethylene is approved for food contact.
